8 Incredible Things To Do In Macau

Ritik Jain

Macau island is filled with amazing spots to spend your holiday, my personal experience has been really great in Macau. This little city is closer to Hong Kong, the travel time is just 1 hour by bus or ferry. Macau is one of the most visited cities in the world. The city is pretty clean & the language spoken here is Chinese & Portuguese. Currency is Macanese Pataca.

Experience World Class Hotels

Macau is home to one of the finest collections of hotels in the world, this city is said to be the Las Vegas of Asia & for a reason. Macau has beautiful hotels with country themes. You can experience, Italy, London, Paris & more all in one city. My favourites are:

  1. The Venetian Macau – Experience Italy’s Venice
  2. The Londoner Macau – London Vibes
  3. The Parisian Macau – Eiffel tower? Yes
  4. Wynn Palace – Crazy architecture
  5. City of dreams – As the name suggests
  6. Studio City – Dreamy

I have visited all of them in my Macau trip & it is safe to say that it is going to be worth all your time in the Macau city. Make sure to spare plenty of time to explore each one of them.

The experiences in the hotels are absolutely free, you can roam around & click beautiful pictures, of course you have to pay for the hotel room if you wish to stay there. These are 5 star hotels so expect a pretty hefty price.

All the hotels here have some good experiences for tourists and guests & for absolutely free. You can find Light shows,  acts, water fountain show, free cable car ride. It’s just crazy that you can do so much at no cost in Macau city.

These hotels also include fine dinning restaurants, cafe, & bakery, so if you go there you must check it out, also I have mentioned some of these eateries in this article.

Enjoy Free Shows & Activities

This city offers great entertainment, I was totally blown away by the performances and that too for free. Macau practice this method to attract tourists by offering them some sort of entertainment for no cost. This helps luxury hotels to promote their businesses.

Some of my favourites include –

  1. Changing of the guard show in Londoner Macau
  2. Eiffel tower light show in Parisian Macau
  3. Free Cable car ride in Wynn Palace
  4. Gondola ride in The Venetian Macau (Paid)
  5. House of dancing water in The city of dreams

I have gone in-depth in some of the hotels in my One Day Macau Itinerary, make sure to read that, it is going to be helpful.

Explore Cotai Strip

Now, all of the above hotels that I have mentioned are situated in Cotai Strip, this street or area is highly visited tourist spot in whole of Macau, I like to call it a fun strip.

Just walking here feels in you are in Las Vegas, with a little touch of Asia. There are beautiful streets with all decorative construction materials for an aesthetic vibe. Palm trees all over, with beautiful wind flowing. Even stopping at the red light feels like a scenic view.

What to expect in Cotai Strip?

  1. Grand hotels & resorts
  2. Shopping malls ( Shoppes at four seasons, grand canal shoppes)
  3. Dinning & Restaurant
  4. Clubs
  5. Art Experiences (Team lab Macau Exhibition)
  6. Take free bus shuttle

Eat At Highly Rated Restaurants in Cotai Strip

Wing Lei Palace

This restaurant is situated in Wynn Palace Macau, I have been here & the architecture is just so amazing, hard to ignore. You have a free cable car ride here in Wynn Palace that takes you inside this hotel, make sure to do that.

Wing lei is a cantonese restaurant, it is also Michelin 2 star restaurant, that should increase your excitement to try the food. The ambience is amazing, its royal, its plush, there is gold colour all around with red & green accents, you get the view of lake when you are seated.

Make sure to book prior as they won’t allow entry on spot. Also being a luxury hotel you can expect prices to be really really high. Invoice can easily go 500+ MOP.

Churchill’s Table

Located in The Londoner Macau, with the taste of British cuisine, this restaurant is a statement. Every second it is going to remind you of London. With leather seats & brown interior everything feels luxurious. Food presentations is very nice & properly managed. If you are into western cuisine then this is a place to spent some time, make sure to carry at least 400 MOP.

Market Bistro

Craving some Singaporean food? Market bistro got you. Not too expensive as the other two, located inside the Parisian Macau. I really liked the out front store, though inside dinning area is pretty ok. You get chair without the cushioned back rest. You can expect around 100 MOP bill.

Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao

This restaurant is inspired by Shanghai eateries, & is situated inside The Venetian Macau. For you Chinese food cravings such as soup dumplings & noodles, this is a place to go. Based on a full red theme, the ambience will enhance the sense of sitting in a restaurant in china. In conclusion this restaurant is not too harsh on your pocket & offers good food.

Take Free Bus Service

Free bus service, macau

Cotai Strip offers people free bus shuttle service that you can use to explore whole area, the amount of freebies that Macau offers is crazy. Overall, the most amount of time I have spent in Macau was here. The buses are in great condition & comfortable. The bus starts from 9 AM and runs till midnight & you can expect a bus every 15 minutes. This is so convenient. Also check, Hong Kong to Macau by Bus & Ferry

Sky Walk With City View

Are you interested in walking in the sky? well not to be too dramatic but it does feel like it. The city offers this amazing activity. You get really high, approximately 233 metres up from the ground.

This activity is situated at the top of the Macau tower, experience to this tower is also included. Lets talk about pricing, adult admission will cost you about 100 USD & for child its about 70 USD. This is an expensive activity to do in Macau, but it offers another level of experience.

In many of such activity, person often gets hand rails to hold on while experiencing this but here its kind of different. You have no hand rails to hold on to, but you are fully secured by the help of  overhead safety harness. You can walk freely without any obstruction.

Please note that child should be at least 3 years of age in order to enjoy Sky walk. The prices also include your digital pictures & videos that you will get after the activity. As merchandise you get a T-shirt & e-certificate. When you walk the walkway on the very high of the Macau tower, you get a different kind of thrill. Overall I would rate the experience 10 out of 10.

Experience Harry Potter World

There are not many places in the world where you or your kids can experience the magic of Harry Potter. Here in Macau you can experience amazing world of your childhood favourite movie. Harry Potter The Exhibition offers an amazing time with your family, as a fan myself I can safely say that this is a must visit place.

Harry Potter The Exhibition admission ticket price varies, from 218 MOP for adults to 268 MOP in the rush hours. Child ticket price is 168 MOP to 208 MOP in rush hours. You also have the option for VIP tickets, costing 698 MOP. The timing of The exhibition, 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM & stays open 7 days a week.

As the name suggests it is an exhibition, where in one can experience the Harry Potter world. Every step will remember you about Harry Potter with different rooms giving you a different experience. From magic wand to beautiful Harry Potter style architecture, I am sure you are going to love it especially for kids. It is one of the craziest experience, as if you are inside the movie itself.

Indulge In Roman Architecture

Macau’s fisherman wharf is one such tourist spot that makes you feel like you are walking in Rome. Spread in 133,000 square meters of area, you need quite a time to explore this beautiful place. The good part? it is absolutely free. I spent quite good time here, just sitting and seeing the roman looking golden hue buildings.

This is not just the architecture, fisherman wharf also includes hotels, dinning & cafes. It has more 100 shops to explore. if you want a chill out place this can be the one. It also serves as a great photography spot in Macau. On my visit, I have seen wedding shoots happening, influencers make videos & just overall tourists snapping with their phones & cameras.

This attraction is opened 24 hours a day, so you can pretty much visit it anytime. Although situated in an open area, you might want to find a shade quite often, maybe inside a cafe or restaurant. You get to see the beautiful seaside promenade. Sands macau hotel is closer to this place & you can take a free shuttle too.
